Summer Project 2009
The latest Touch Trust project was held from 25th-28th August with our live performance of ‘Beach Life’ on the Glanfa Stage in the foyer of Wales Millennium Centre.
Each day started with a basic touch trust session and we then began to introduce imagery, movement, music and sensory objects based on ideas of the beach. On the first day we introduced the simple idea of being on the beach, having fun and dancing on the sand together in the warm sun. In the afternoon we moved towards the sea and explored water sounds and movements. We passed around bowls of water which some guests enjoyed a quick dip with their finger or toe before drying off, while others enjoyed splashing their hand around and even feeling their partners sprinkle drops of water on them! This helped inspire guests to create their own water compositions.
On the second day, guests imagined diving under water and swimming with beautiful tropical fish and even venturing into a ship wreck. This was cold and dark but we arrived safely back on the beach and dried off on the warm sands before playing beach games to finish off the day.
The third day was very exciting as guests built up a sea storm and were visited by a giant octopus! The octopus danced around each of the guests and then celebrated with us that the storm had passed and we were all safe.
On the fourth and final day guests performed a crab dance, scuttling over the sand to get to the sea where they then created a huge sea storm and had a visit from a giant octopus! They shared their individual beach compositions before the audience joined in with instruments, beach balls and dancing It was a wonderful performance and all the guests showed their enjoyment with smiles and laughter! Guests then had their own party with family and friends where they received certificates and gifts.
Photos of this wonderful project will be added as soon as they are available.
