Touch Trust Goes East!

Wales Millennium Centre-based charity Touch Trust, is making its final preparations before travelling out to Hong Kong on 6 November to present seminars and workshops about its work.

Touch Trust’s Director Dilys Price OBE and her colleague Charlotte Aubrey will spend 10 days in Hong Kong working at a special school and the Centre for Special Needs and Studies in Inclusive Education – part of Hong Kong University.

The trip follows a visit to the Wales Millennium Centre by a delegation of Arts practitioners from China who visited Touch Trust for an afternoon. Amongst the delegation was a lecturer in dance from Hong Kong University who had a particular interest in what she saw. She invited Touch Trust to visit and thanks to the support of the British Council, they were able to accept.

Dilys Price will deliver lectures and seminars during the 10 day visit as well as running workshops at the Jockey Club Sarah Rowe School – a school providing education for students with special educational needs – at the invitation of its Head Teacher Alan Howells (formally of Ysgol Gogarth in North Wales). Touch Trust has trained staff from the North Wales special school and hopes to link with the Jockey Club Sarah Rowe School in the same way.

Touch Trust offers unique, creative movement programmes for people of all ages with profound and multiple disabilities which have been developed over many years by its founder and Director Dilys Price OBE. Through movement, music and artistic practices, the programmes bring about expression, empowerment, wellbeing, happiness and development for people often excluded from the artistic community.

Touch Trust takes full advantage of its home within the Wales Millennium Centre where it can offer participatory performance opportunities and has access to a host of musicians and performers of all kinds to enhance its programmes.

About 150 people attend Touch Trust sessions each week at the Cardiff Bay headquarters but the charity extends its reach throughout south and north Wales, Bath, Portsmouth, Southampton and Glasgow through its 21 outreach centres. In 2008 Touch Trust staff travelled to New York to demonstrate the programme in a school specialising in Autistic Spectrum Disorders, but Hong Kong is by far the furthest distance the charity has travelled.

Founder and Director of Touch Trust Dilys Price OBE has developed its unique creative movement programmes over many years and is now set to demonstrate them in Hong Kong.
